Welcome to Takes Me Back! I’m Michael, and I’m thrilled you’re here. My journey into the world of nostalgia, and writing about the past began in a rather unexpected way—thanks to my grandmother, who was nothing short of a treasure trove herself.
Growing up, my weekends were spent in my grandma’s cozy, cluttered attic, a magical place filled with forgotten relics and hidden gems. It was a labyrinth of dusty trunks, antique furniture, and yellowed photographs. I remember my first discovery: an old, ornate jewelry box, its surface intricately carved with floral patterns. As I opened it, I was greeted with a cascade of delicate vintage necklaces and brooches. Each piece seemed to whisper stories of a bygone era.
This initial thrill of uncovering history in my grandma’s attic quickly blossomed into a full-blown passion. I found myself obsessively researching the origins of each item I stumbled upon. What was the story behind that antique mirror? Who wore that vintage dress? The more I learned, the deeper my fascination grew.
In 2018, I decided to share my newfound obsession with the world. I created this blog, Takes Me Back, as a space to document and celebrate my retro-spectice writing. It’s not just about the items themselves but the stories they hold and the memories they evoke. Each post aims to transport you to a different time and place, revealing the beauty and history behind our stories.
Through this blog, I hope to inspire others to see the value in the old and the forgotten. Every antique has a story, and I’m here to uncover and share them. So, whether you’re a seasoned collector or just someone with a curiosity for the past, join me on this journey of rediscovery. Let’s treasure memories together!
