Tim Allen Hopes To Make A Statement With His Latest Sitcom

Tim Allen is enthusiastic about his new comedy sitcom Shifting Gears and hopes to leave a lasting impression with it. He acknowledged his previous endeavors on Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, with assured fans of an even better delivery in the upcoming project.

While fans still yearn for a Home Improvement reboot, Shifting Gears is in order for its pilot episode, which Tim will executive produce alongside writers Mike and Julie Scully. There have been recastings in between, with Froy Gutierrez reportedly losing his major character role in the project.

Shifting Gears sees Tim’s character, Matt, who is described as a stubborn, widower that runs a car restoration shop. Everything shakes up when his daughter, Riley, played by Kat Dennings, brings her teenage children to live with him. There is also Matt’s son Nick, who is yet to be cast for now.

Is Tim bowing out?

Tim turned 71 in June, and it is not unusual for questions about his retirement to arise. The father of one clarified last year that he has no plans to leave the acting scene just yet, and would keep working for as long as he can. Tim’s five-decade career is still going strong, and he would love to keep it so.

Tim also noted that retiring would make him feel empty as he always needs something to do, and like his “Santa Claus” character, he would always show up. Away from the spotlight, he is still married to Jane Hadjuk, who has starred in TV shows like Benchmarks, Chicago Hope, and a few alongside her husband.
